Peer-reviewers Training Session 2017

The MusiQuE Board and staff are looking forward to welcome you to the next Peer-reviewers Training Session.

Interested individuals who meet the requirements and who are willing to act as a reviewer in MusiQuE review procedures, are highly encouraged to register for the training.

Practical details

The next session will take place on Wednesday 8th (16:00h-21:00h) and Thursday 9th (09:00h-13:00h) November 2017 at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, Croatia, just before the start of the Annual Congress of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen (AEC).

Programme

The training session will start with a general introduction to MusiQuE, its structure and its review procedures, as well as to the notion of ‘peer’ in peer-review. This introduction is followed by two parallel sessions:

  • a newcomers session for those peers who haven’t taken part in a MusiQuE training recently. This session (‘Preparations, Procedures and Paperwork’) seeks to provide participants with an overview of the documents peers receive in advance of reviews, the roles of the Secretary, the review team Chair and the other team members (peers and student), and the different types of review reports and the final outcomes of reviews.
  • a ‘Peer-to-peer’ session for experienced reviewers, who might have the ambition to act as a Chair during reviews.
At the end of the first day of the training, participants prepare the role-play exercises (scheduled on day 2).

On the second day, the training continues with a Role-play session 'acting as a peer-reviewer', in which participants undertake a meeting during a mock institutional site-visit, assuming the role of either members of a review team or staff from within the institution being reviewed. Consecutively, participants are asked during the 'Working as part of a team' session to discuss questions posed by the session leaders in small groups in order to experience how to develop into a good team in a very short period of time.

The training ends with a plenary session including a presentation of the MusiQuE Board, an opportunity to offer feedback on the training and an update about MusiQuE’s ongoing and upcoming review activities.

All sessions will be delivered in English by MusiQuE Board and staff members and experienced MusiQuE reviewers. An outline of the training is available here.

Please note that participants will be asked to prepare for the training by reading and analyzing a set of materials submitted in advance.
